New Life at Citrent Ranch: The 2026 Season Begins!

The wait is finally over. Despite the Southern Tier chill, the barn is officially buzzing with the sound of tiny hooves and high-pitched bleats. We are thrilled to announce the arrival of our first Mini-Fainting kids of the season! Our first kid was born healthy and vigorous January 18th and we have 6 more does due this week alone.

These kids represent the future of our foundation herd—selected for their hardy genetics, superior 4:1 meat-to-bone ratio, and docile temperaments. Watching them find their legs within minutes of birth is a powerful reminder of why we chose the Myotonic breed for our regenerative mission.

These births are about more than just increasing our numbers. Every kid born at Citrent Ranch is a step toward our goal of reclaiming former monocultures and restoring the ecological health of our land. This spring, these kids will be the primary workers in our rotational grazing program, helping us manage our pastures in a way that supports our native ecosystem—including the American Bald Eagles that call our ranch home.

What’s Next?

  • The Kidding Watch Continues: We still have several does due over the next week. The "Kidding Tote" stays stocked, and the coffee is staying hot!

  • Kid Reservations: Interested in adding one (or several!) of these adorable little chunks to your own herd? Contact us to get on our reservation list. We will have mini-fainters and Nigerian Dwarfs available. Local pick up and shipping is available.

  • CSM Sign-ups: Stay tuned! These spring arrivals are the first step in our 2026 Community Supported Meal (CSM) kits.

Thank you for following our journey from military service to land stewardship. Follow us on instagram @Citrentranch for "Kid-Cam" updates as the rest of the herd arrives!
