What to Expect from the Newborn Goat Kids

Next month, we expect several healthy and lively goat kids to be born. These kids will come from carefully selected parent goats known for their strong health, good temperament, and excellent genetics. This ensures that the new generation will inherit traits that make them ideal for various purposes such as companionship, meat, and may even have a few show prospects.

Characteristics of Our Goat Kids

  • Healthy and strong: Our goats receive regular veterinary care and a balanced diet, which helps produce robust offspring.

  • Friendly and social: We prioritize gentle handling to ensure the kids are comfortable around people.

  • Variety of breeds: Expect a mix of breeds, each with unique features and qualities. This year we have specifically bred several of our Myotonic girls to our best Nigerian buck. This will create a wonderful combination with a smaller overall stature but high meat to bone ratios. Some kids may even be Silkie. We will also have several purebred Nigerian Dwarf Goats and Mini Lamanchas.

  • Adaptable: These kids will be raised in a natural environment that prepares them well for different climates and conditions.

Why Goat Kids Are a Great Addition to Your Farm or Home

Goat kids bring more than just cuteness. They offer practical benefits and can enrich your life in many ways.

Benefits of Raising Goat Kids

  • Milk and Meat production: Our Nigerian Dwarf Goats produce rich, nutritious milk that can be used fresh or for making cheese and yogurt. Our Myotonics and Myotonic crosses offer high meat to bone ratios producing delicious and nutritious meat.

  • Companionship: Goats are social animals that bond well with humans and other animals. They do need another goat friend so we offer deals on multiples.

  • Sustainable farming: Goats help manage weeds and brush, contributing to land maintenance.

  • Educational value: Raising kids teaches responsibility and animal care skills, great for families and schools.

Preparing for the Arrival of Goat Kids

If you’re considering welcoming a goat kid into your life, preparation is key. Here are some practical steps to get ready:

Housing and Shelter

  • Provide a clean, dry, and safe shelter with good ventilation.

  • Use straw or wood shavings for bedding to keep kids warm and comfortable.

  • Ensure the shelter is predator-proof and secure.

Nutrition and Feeding

  • Kids will initially rely on their mother’s milk, but you should prepare for gradual weaning. We may also have bottle kids which can go home sooner if desired.

  • Have quality hay, grains, a goat specific mineral supplement, and fresh water available.

  • Consult a veterinarian for other supplements or special dietary needs.

Health and Care

  • Schedule regular health checks and vaccinations as desired.

  • Learn to recognize signs of illness early. These include weight loss, diarrhea, and anemia.

  • Keep the living area clean to prevent infections.

How to Choose the Right Goat Kid for You

Selecting the right goat kid depends on your goals and environment. Here are some tips:

  • Assess your space: Some breeds require more room and exercise.

  • Consider your purpose: Dairy, meat, or pets have different breed preferences.

  • We will also help match the right kid to your needs!

What Happens After the Kids Are Born

Once the kids arrive, they will need attentive care during their first weeks. This period is critical for their development and bonding. Dam raised kids will remain with their mom until weaning at 8 weeks when they can go to their new homes. Bottle raised kids can go home as early as 2 weeks of age to experienced homes.

Early Life Care

  • Monitor their feeding and growth closely.

  • Keep them warm and protected from harsh weather.

  • Socialize them gently to build trust.

Opportunities for Buyers and Enthusiasts

  • We will offer some of the kids for sale to those interested in raising goats.

  • We will also have pre-orders for meat

  • Visitors are welcome to meet the kids and learn about goat care.

  • Some workshops and tours will be available to share knowledge about goat farming for an additional fee
